New and Fresh Start for the Academic Year 2022-2023: Recent Developments of the Institution Come to Light
By: Rianne Denise R. Gonzales
As the new normal schooling welcomes the pupils and students in Letran-Manaoag, recent developments in the school, namely: New Hyflex Classrooms, New Learning Spaces, Basic Education Department Learning Resource Center, the Library of St. Thomas Aquinas, and the New St. Martin de Porres Church, arise.
The new classrooms were situated at the new St. Vicente Liem de la Paz building, the newly renovated St. Dominic de Guzman building, and the Our Lady of Manaoag Building. Each classroom in these new learning spaces has one touchscreen television and one computer, allowing pupils and students to engage in hybrid learning. The classrooms also provide the pupils and the students with a convenient and pleasant learning experience. These classrooms can only accommodate 25 pupils or students per classroom due to health protocols.
Aside from the new hybrid classrooms, students and teachers are given several tables and benches for the new learning spaces outside the classrooms. These learning spaces are where the pupils and students stay, eat, hang out, and study since they can be found anywhere and used by anyone.
During the pre-pandemic period, the Basic Education Department Learning Resource Center was housed in the institution's old high school building. Then, as the new St. Vicente Liem de la Paz building was constructed and used by the faculty and staff for 2021–2022, the BED Learning Resource Center was located at the underground level. Now, the BED Learning Resource Center has been relocated to the old high school building of the institution. The newly refurbished Basic Education Department Learning Resource Center provides a space for learners to access information and build knowledge, as it is a central point for all kinds of reading and learning.
The BED Learning Resource Center consists of the following areas: The Circulation Area, which serves as the gateway between the pupils/students and the documents, is where the lending of books, reminders for overdue books, reservation of books, and records and files can be done; the General Reference Section where you can find encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, almanacs, and handbooks; the Filipiniana Section, where you can read books or literary pieces purely written by Filipinos both internationally and locally; Children’s Area where you can find educational books for children as well as children’s storybooks; Elementary, Junior High School, and Senior High School Areas where you can find textbooks and general references for elementary, junior high school, and senior high school students, respectively; Computer and Internet Room; Periodicals Section where you can find journals, magazines, clippings, newspapers, and pamphlets. The Basic Education Department Learning Resource Center has not only textbooks and other educational books but also fiction books that students can read for free.
The Library of St. Thomas Aquinas is located on the third floor of the Our Lady of Manaoag Building. The library of St. Thomas Aquinas consists of the following areas: The Student-Assistant Help Desk at the entrance of the library, the Filipiniana Section, the General Reference Section, and the Periodicals Section. The library’s Computer and Internet Area has also received more personal computers for the students and professors to use.
Finally, the new bookstore and canteen are located alongside the school's basketball court at St. Martin de Porres Church.
These recent developments aim to provide convenient, efficient, and pleasant learning experiences for the pupils and students of Letran-Manaoag.
